Blue comes quietly. Not as a statement, but as a feeling. The kind that appears somewhere between a farewell text and a new beginning, between wanting to move on and secretly looking back one last time.
On #4a79b1, Ray Lozano takes her listeners into a world of blue—once again discovering the remarkable in the big and small of reality. With her third release, the German-Filipino producer and singer presents five brand-new tracks that reveal a new side of her and her ever-evolving sound. co-produced by her longtime musical partner, Samon Kawamura.
#4a79b1 brings the colour blue to life as a character of its own—driven by the small goodbyes that seem to define one’s mid-thirties: relationships fade away, friendships take on new forms, and older versions of oneself disappear without ceremony, almost unnoticed. There is freedom in it, but also a strange, lingering ache.
Blossoming amid the emotions and routines of everyday life, the blue unfolds into a newfound sense of self that is reflected in confident lyrics and arrangements rich in detail. The title #4a79b1 is less a reference to the content and more an abstract description of the gentle, unassuming tones in between.
The songs live in tension. Warm melodies meet understated grooves, carrying stories of modern dating, old patterns, and emotions too complex to name. The age where you tell yourself you have no time for games anymore, yet somehow find yourself caught between desire, nostalgia, and possibility. Like its namesake colour, #4a79b1 never settles on one emotion. It lingers in the space between them.
With #4a79b1, Ray opened herself up to new musical processes. In addition to co-producer Samon Kawamura, pianist and background vocalist Gabriel “Sir Pryce” Denhoff and guitarist and bassist Fritz Dinter—members of her live band—joined the recording sessions for the first time. Within this collaborative setting, the musician discovers new avenues for self-expression and a well-rounded overall sound. This creates a fresh context that organically highlights Ray’s gentle voice, her clever vocal arrangements, and lyrics. Photo by Urs Mader and artwork by Parissa Charghi.
